Cedar Rapids Police reported a flurry of gunfire in Cedar Rapids on Thursday night.
According to Cedar Rapids Police, three separate incidents of gunshots were investigated, one involving an 18-year-old victim who was shot in the back on the northeast side while riding a scooter. There were at least six houses sprayed with bullets, and shots were fired near Kirkwood Parkway on the SW side. All of these incidents occurred within a period of six hours.
CBS 2 Iowa's News Now reports that gunfire erupted around 5:15 p.m. in the 700 block of G Ave. NE. Police are asking for leads and encourage citizens to call Crime Stoppers with any information.
The second incident happened around 6:40 p.m. in the 5700 block of C Avenue NE. Officers arrived and assisted an 18-year old male victim suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower back. Police say the investigation found that the victim and a companion were riding scooters on the sidewalk when someone driving by opened fire. The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries.
According to the CRPD Facebook page, around 11:11 p.m. cops received calls of shots fired near Kirkwood Parkway SW. Cops spoke to witnesses and said they discovered shell casings nearby, but no injuries or damage was initially reported.
