U of I Administrator Arrested For Drunk Driving
A new associate dean at the University of Iowa was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving the same day that he interviewed for the job. He was also driving with his children in the vehicle with him.
49-year-old Roland Racevskis was arrested two weeks before being hired by the University. He told the Cedar Rapids Gazette that he has informed his employer and is taking responsibility for his actions.
Racevskis is charged with two counts of child endangerment and one count of operating under the influence. He was pulled over November 19th while driving his 13-year-old and 9-year-old children to a music lesson. A breath test showed his blood-alcohol level to be nearly twice the legal limit.
The University of Iowa says it was not aware of his arrest at the time they hired Racevskis as the associate dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The college does not require a criminal background check when hiring for an internal position.
