You know football season is right around the corner when 'watch lists' begin to be issued. They don't mean a lot now, but it's always a good thing when you have players turn up on them! Iowa has two juniors that are on prestigious lists heading into the 2018 season.

Quarterback Nate Stanley has been named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award given annually to the college football player of the year. Stanley is one of 11 Big Ten players to be named to the watch list. A quarterback has won the award in eight of the last ten years. Stanley threw for 26 touchdowns last year, good for third in the Big Ten. It was the second highest total in Iowa history.

Defensive end Anthony Nelson is on the watch list for the Bednarik Award given out to the top defensive player in college football. Iowa has had four semifinalists for the award since 2005. Desmond King was the most recent in 2016. Nelson had 41 tackles and 7.5 sacks last season for Iowa, earning him third-team All-Big Ten honors.
