To get ahead of the impending winter storm, to minimize the use of their trucks and multiple drivers on routes, and to play it safe for their drivers on unpredictable roads, City of Cedar Rapids says yard waste & trash will be collected together today and tomorrow.

If you live in Cedar Rapids and either Tuesday or Wednesday are your regular collection days, they still will be this week. A heads-up that you should be aware of is that both trash and yard waste are currently planned to be collected together, by the same truck. You should still make sure to set out both of your separate collection containers (YARDY and trash) and one truck will pick them up.

Officials say that a special process will be done this week with the combined materials that turn yard waste into energy instead of compost. Normal, separate collection of all materials is scheduled to resume Thursday, weather permitting.
