Three Midwest Zoos Among Finalists for Best in the U.S.
The midwest is blessed with some of the greatest zoos in the country and several of them are in the running to be named best zoo in the country.
USA Today has named 20 finalists for the country's best zoo and, according to KETV, they were "hand-picked by a panel of zoo and family travel experts."
The three zoos in the midwest that made the finals are:
- Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield, Illinois.
- St. Louis Zoo in St. Louis, Missouri
Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska
You can vote for your favorite zoo HERE through noon Monday, March 27.
The other 17 finalists are the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Audubon Zoo, Bronx Zoo, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Denver Zoo, Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Forth Worth Zoo, Houston Zoo, Memphis Zoo, Phoenix Zoo, Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, San Diego Zoo, and Woodland Park Zoo.
There are some great zoos and aquariums even closer to home. The most well-known zoo is the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines.
Another great zoo not too far into Illinois is one I discovered just a few years ago. The Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley.
The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque is an awesome day-outing here in the Hawkeye state.
Right here in Cedar Rapids, the little ones will especially love Old MacDonald's Farm at Bever Park.
Warm weather is on the way, so make plans for a family getaway now. You won't be disappointed with the trip or the memories you'll make.
