This Nebraska City Gets High Marks on The Best and Worst Cities to Drive In
Driving, a lot of us do it. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and The U.S. Department of Transportation say there are roughly 270 million registered vehicles in the United States. That's a lot of vehicles on the road. Well, not necessarily on the road. I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited that is still registered but the days of driving are long gone, Muffler bearings went out, the bumper valve went bad, the piston return springs are rusty on it, and trying to find a set has been troublesome, I'm guessing there are a couple of other vehicles sitting around like that but who knows how many.
The Safe and Not So Safe Places to Drive
The FHWA and USDOT regularly track vehicle registrations through state motor vehicle departments. With those cars traversing the roadways of the US, there are some safe and not-so-safe places to drive your vehicle and Wallethub has the details. WalletHub presents drum roll, please, the Best & Worst Cities to Drive In, and Lincoln, Nebraska, to borrow a Georgia phrase, comes out looking like a peach. Lucky #13 on Wallethub's list of BEST cities to drive in. The list is Best AND Worst but Nebraska doesn't fall on the bad list so we'll stay positive, for now. According to WalletHub Lincoln has lower vehicle maintenance costs and you can park that ride in Lincoln for a reasonable rate. Also, commute time in and around Lincoln is very good. Not like in Miami, Florida WalletHub says eh, it's not so good.

How does Wallethub come up with these numbers?
WalletHub experts conducted a thorough analysis to evaluate the driving conditions in the 100 most populated U.S. cities by examining various factors that affect drivers. Here's a breakdown of the process:
Key Dimensions: They focused on four main areas that impact driving:
- Cost of Ownership & Maintenance: This includes expenses like fuel, insurance, and maintenance
- Traffic & Infrastructure: This looks at factors like congestion levels and road quality.
- Safety: This assesses the likelihood of accidents and overall road safety.
- Access to Vehicles & Maintenance: This examines how easy it is for residents to access vehicles and vehicle services.
According to Statista, there are 19,502 incorporated cities and towns in the United States as of 2019. So, to be in the top 15 or 20 of that list of 100 is pretty good, you might even say excellent. Be safe my friend.
