It brings new meaning to "Sunday Funday" this year. A bar that's only open one day a year?

They are opening at 8 a.m. on Sunday, March 17th, then, at 2 a.m. March 18th, they'll be closed for 364 more days.

The Tycoon is a drinking establishment located at 427 2nd Ave SE, in downtown Cedar Rapids downstairs from Fat Wally's.

Actually, their Facebook page shows they were open on New Year's Eve as well, but you get the idea. They do most of their business on St. Patrick's Day. It's a unique business model for a bar, only opening for a couple of special occasions a year, but it obviously brings in the crowds to eat, drink and be merry. With the biggest drinking day of the year being on a weekend this year, that's an added plus for a place like this.

They open to the public not only for St. Patrick's Day, but the SaPaDaPaSo parade festivities, and then, they lock the doors and count the money. It might just TAKE a whole year to do that after one St. Patrick's Day of business!

So, if you're out celebrating, don't miss out on the luck o' the Irish or your chance to patronize what their Facebook page also calls "the longest surviving night club in Cedar Rapids."

If you drink, don't drive. Always have a designated driver, call a taxi or a ride-sharing service. Have fun, but be safe.

See you at The Tycoon!
