The WORST Chocolate Brand in America Sold Right Here in Iowa
Imagine this, you work for a company that decides they want to build not only a great business but a theme park alongside it and it's for you. It will be for employees only and no one else. That's exactly what Milton Hershey did when he surveyed the land for what would become the Hershey headquarters and also Hershey Park. Wikipedia says Hershey's Park, as it was originally named, officially opened to the public on May 30, 1906, at that time becoming Hershey Park.
Here's the thing, the theme park is still going to this day. They reported $1.6 in revenue for 2022. Does that mean their chocolate or the company is good? If you're to believe 24wallst.com, it's one of the worst brands of chocolate out there. Not the worst, but not far from it. In fact, the three worst chocolates are all sold in the state of Iowa. Iowa is selling the worst of the worst and are you eating it? It's also not all due to flavor.
Why do they think Hershey's Doesn't Taste Good?
24wallst.com has issues with not only the ingredients used in Hersheys but the process of making it. The process now uses child labor and sometimes child slave labor on farms and Hershey claimed to have eliminated that but was found to still be using child labor outside the US. 24wallst.com also took issue with Hershey because of an ABC report in 2006 that found the candy sold by Hershey's is not technically chocolate because they replace the cocoa butter with vegetable oil, so they no longer qualified as chocolate according to the FDA. They then played some games and called their products "chocolate candy" or "chocolatey" That kind of word trickery has already been used in the dairy industry. Next time you're looking for ice cream, read the label. There are plenty of dairy desserts out there but they are not ice cream, check it out.
What does Nestle do that's not good?
Nestle also gets dinged here for the use of children and slavery to produce their chocolate. According to 24wallst.com they often misled the public about phasing out such practices and it's not been a good look for Nestle. Nestle, allegedly instructed employees to hide evidence of such practices should inspectors visit the farms that supply the company.
They take the worst chocolate cake
That leads us to the worst chocolatier in the bunch says 24wallst.com, Mars. Not the planet but maybe. The prevalence of child labor and slavery to produce chocolate seems a bit extreme with this company and multiple investigations, have led them to promise to end the practices wholly. Those promises were made in 2005, then 2008, 2010, and also in 2020 to no avail. A 2023 investigation by CBS found Mars allowed children as young as 5 years old to work in a supply chain in Ghana that was dangerous and deadly.
