The Most Popular Romantic Comedy in Iowa
With Valentine's Day coming up tomorrow, chances are you've seen a romantic comedy or two pop up on your TV. Whether you like them or not, even more are bound to appear this weekend, so get ready!
In honor of tomorrow's holiday, a new study from Comparitech revealed the most popular romantic comedy in each state. How did they come up with their results? The article says:
"Using Google’s list of top romantic comedy movies, we searched each film individually on Google Trends to find which state scored the highest. The top result is the designated film for that state."
I was very disappointed by Iowa's top rom-com, mainly because I have never heard of it! Our pick is the 1940 film The Philadelphia Story starring Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and Jimmy Stewart. It has a 100% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. If you have also never heard of the movie, the IMDB summary says:
"When a rich woman's ex-husband and a tabloid-type reporter turn up just before her planned remarriage, she begins to learn the truth about herself."
It appears that Iowa is the only state where The Philadelphia Story came out on top, but we're definitely not the only ones who went with an older film. Picks from surrounding Midwest states include:
- Minnesota - His Girl Friday (1940)
- Missouri - Say Anything (1989)
- Wisconsin - Bringing Up Baby (1938)
- Illinois - Sixteen Candles (1984)
- South Dakota - Hitch (2005)
- Nebraska - There's Something About Mary (1998)
