I think anyone who has ever attended college, or even CONSIDERED attending college, will tell you the same thing: college is expensive. But, some colleges are much more expensive than others.

Using the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, the site 24/7 Wall Street put together a list of the most expensive colleges in all 50 states. The article says:

"Colleges and universities were ranked based on average annual net price — the annual cost of tuition, books, room and board, minus any financial aid — for full-time, first-time degree-seeking undergraduate students who received grant or scholarship aid in the 2020-21 school year."

Based on this data, the most expensive college to attend in the state of Iowa is Grinnell College in Grinnell. Their official website reads:

"Founded in 1846, we’re a private, coed, residential liberal arts and sciences college located in Grinnell, Iowa. Our community embraces intellectual journeys of all kinds, and provides the individualized guidance to dive deeper, define new directions, and follow their passions across the world."

During the 2020-2021 school year, the average annual net price to attend Grinnell College was $37,423. The school's acceptance rate is around 10.5%, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 9 to 1 in the fall of 2021. The most popular field of study at Grinnell College is social sciences.

For Iowans looking to study out-of-state at other Midwest colleges, here are some of the other most expensive schools (based on the average annual net price in 2020/2021):
