The Cedar Rapids Library Will Celebrate Dolly Parton’s Birthday
Dolly Parton was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She modestly wasn't sure she belonged. In the end, there may not be a Hall of Fame that Dolly doesn't deserve to be in. On top of her amazing musical career in country, pop, gospel, and more, it is perhaps her philanthropic endeavors that will leave the longest legacy. Especially her 'Imagination Library.'
Five years ago the Cedar Rapids Public Library announced that Dolly was bringing her Imagination Library program to town. The program mails free books to children from birth to age five each month. CBS2 reports that all children are eligible to participate regardless of income. In the five years the program has been in Cedar Rapids, nearly 300,000 free books have found their way into the hands of children. Nearly 5,000 children have graduated from the program by turning five years old. CBS2 reports that in honor of that amazing number and also to honor Dolly on her birthday, the Cedar Rapids Library Foundation has announced it's having a party!
The party will be on Saturday, January 21st at the Downtown Library from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be family-friendly activities and of course...Dolly Parton karaoke! CBS2 reports that you will also be able to sign your children up for Dolly's Imagination Library. But you don't have to wait until then. You can sign up your child for FREE books courtesy of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library HERE.
