Eastern Iowa Bar & Restaurant Serves an Epic ‘Tenderloin Tower’
Now THAT'S a tenderloin!
I was scrolling through Facebook this weekend, when I came across a group called "Pursuing Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches." The group is incredibly popular, with nearly 100,000 members from all over the Midwest and beyond. Recent posts in the group show tenderloins from Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and, of course, Iowa.
On January 9th, a group member named Tim Hayes posted a photo that got a lot of attention. The picture shows an insane-looking tenderloin that's loaded up with toppings, and it's from a little place in Bettendorf, Iowa called Purgatory's Pub & Grill.
According to Tim, the dish is called the Tenderloin Tower, and it's topped with "sausage gravy, tater tots, bacon, and [an] over-easy egg." He wrote that the meal was amazing and "the portion size was huge." I think that might be an understatement! I can't imagine one person being able to finish it all.
Located at 2104 State Street in Bettendorf, Purgatory's Pub is described as a "neighborhood bar." The tiny pub serves massive tenderloins, which you can order grilled or battered. A tenderloin basket with one side will run you $12. Tim notes in the comments that the Tenderloin Tower is around $15.
Purgatory's Pub & Grill is open for dine-in and carryout. You can place an order by calling 563-355-2985. They open daily at 11 a.m.
If you're on the hunt for more delicious Iowa pork tenderloins, the Iowa Pork Producers Association has a solid list, courtesy of their annual Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin Contest! The latest winner is Dairy Sweet in Dunlap, Iowa, who also won the competition back in 2005 under different management.
Here's a look at all of the contest winners since 2003:
