Tanager Place Summer Fest Returns June 5

Things continue to happen a little bit differently with many events this year, as vaccines continue to roll out but many organizations continue to promote fun events with safety first. A local organization hosting a popular event that heads into its 30th year as made some changes as well, as Tanager Place Summer Fest is ready to welcome you to the Collins Aerospace Sports Complex this June.

What are they doing to ensure safety?

This year, Tanager Place Summer Fest will be a contactless drive-thru event. Please stay in your car at all times when attending, as walk-ups are discouraged.

What will attendees experience as part of the "drive-thru" set-up?

All attendees who pre-register will receive an "ignition starter bag" with fun activities for children ages 4-10. Included in the ignition starter bags will be craft kits featuring Pipe Cleaner Rings, Pipe Cleaner Action Figure, Sun Catcher, Popsicle stick critters-Jelly Fish Puppet. Other goodies included in the bag will be STEAM activities, the General Mills Cereal Box decorating contest, and more. Note that some pieces of material included are small and pose a choking hazard, so are thus not suitable for kids under 3. A limited number of bags will be available to those who don't register.

When is Tanager Place Summer Fest?

Join the fun Saturday, June 5 from 3-5 p.m. Reservations are available for each half-hour timeslot and you can register here.  More information is also available on their Facebook page. Tanager Place Summer Fest takes place at Collins Aerospace rec center, 400 Collins Rd. NE.

What is Tanager Place's mission?

The organization's goal is "to provide services to children and families that inspire, empower and heal".  They raise awareness and support for mental health concerns, which they note on their website have increased greatly over the last 15 months as a result of the pandemic. Summer Fest is supported by donations and sponsorships.

Unfortunately, missing from the event this year will be activities like the auction and the Rev'd Up For Kids classic car show, always a blast, which we were proud to be a part of in years past. Here's hoping the familiar proceedings can return to "normal" soon. Let's take a look back at the last time we were able to enjoy those events.
