A Downtown Cedar Rapids Restaurant Will Close This Month
Another restaurant in Downtown Cedar Rapids is preparing to close its doors in a few weeks. Taco Gato at 209 3rd St SE has announced that their final day in business is coming up November 23rd. The announcement reads:
"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Taco Gato in downtown Cedar Rapids. This decision has not come lightly, as we’ve poured our hearts and souls into creating a vibrant space for our community to enjoy delicious food, laughter, and memorable moments."
Taco Gato started welcoming customers in April of 2023 in the former home of the Lost Cuban. As they say on their website, the restaurant is "not your normal taco joint." The carefully curated menu is described as "Tex-Mex meets Southern," and features items like Taco Bento Boxes, Southern Bibimbap, Gumbo Mac, Fried Okra, Shrimp Ceviche, and Mushroom Fajitas. There's also a unique cocktail menu with "Meowgaritas" and "Paw-Lomas."
Justin Zehr and Tim Kindl, the owners of Taco Gato, gave this reason for the closure of the restaurant:
"Despite our love for this venture, we have realized that we need to focus our unique energy and talents in areas where we can truly thrive. It’s essential for us to make choices that align with our vision and where we can find lasting success."
If you want to visit for one final meal, Taco Gato's last day in business will be Saturday, November 23rd. You can also check out one of the other awesome restaurants run by the Fun Not Fancy Restaurant Group! That includes LP Street Food, Sacred Cow Tavern, Cliff’s Dive Bar & Grill, Bricks Bar & Grill, and the hip-stir in Marion.
