Sugarland's long-awaited new studio album is coming this spring. The duo have shared that Bigger will be available on June 8.

Speaking with the Tennessean, Sugarland shared details about the songs, the writing process and the themes found on Bigger, their fifth studio album and first since ending a five-year hiatus. "Still the Same" is the lead single. The song was penned during their first writing session together last August. Most of the songs were written and recorded in 2018, however, with the final nine songs being cut in late February. Expect messages of empowerment, moments of inspiration and conversations about the world we live in.

"I think we have the wonderful ability to invite questions rather than point fingers," Jennifer Nettles tells the Tennessean.

One song was inspired by the February school shootings in Parkland, Fla., with Kristian Bush saying he approached it from a father's point of view. He wondered how he could discuss the shooting with his children, and then shared his notes with Nettles, who is also a parent. In February, before the school shooting, he told Taste of Country that Sugarland has never been political, but they've always been willing to address socially important issues.

"The politics of the heart I will pick up and I will put on a frigging flag," he said. "Politics of politics, that’s your problem."

While "Still the Same" is nostalgic, Bush tells ToC fans can expect the rest of the album to be sonically progressive ("I can tell you that it’s scaring me, which is great"). However, in their most recent interview, Sugarland share that one song called "Love Me Like I'm Leaving" was written prior to the hiatus in 2012.
