Sample Some Chili This Month to Help a Cedar Rapids Animal Rescue!

One of the amazing organizations we work with for Furry Fridays is hosting a big fundraiser this month, and all are welcome to come take part!

Dogs Forever in Cedar Rapids is gearing up to host their 1st annual Chili Cook Off Fundraiser on Saturday, October 23rd from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Geonetric Building, which is located at 415 12th Ave SE near NewBo City Market.

Registration for the chili cook off is now full, which means that there will be 15 different chilis that guests can sample! Two awards will be going out to winners: $400 for the Judges' Choice Winner, and another $100 for the People's Choice Winner. For a suggested donation of $5, you'll be able to cast your vote for People's Choice, while the judges vote on the other one. I'm excited to announce that I will be one of those judges on the 23rd, along with Joe Winters from KCRG, Eric Engelmann from ISA Ventures, BE LIKE JOE local celebrity Joe Sample, and Miss Iowa Peyton Carlson! Since the Blues 'n' Buffett Chili Challenge was indefinitely cancelled this summer, I'm was very excited to be asked to judge another chili cookoff!

In addition to all the chili, there will also be baked goods and hot apple cider available for purchase, plus a silent auction. All of the proceeds will benefit Dogs Forever, which is a "nonprofit committed to helping find abused, neglected and homeless dogs adoptive homes in Eastern Iowa."
