One of Our Favorite Cedar Rapids Restaurants Will Soon Close

When a local restaurant closes, it is always sad. But sometimes when a restaurant closes, it feels like you're losing a family member. This is one of those closings.

In a post on Facebook, Runt's Munchies, located at 118 2nd Street SE in downtown Cedar Rapids, announced that they will soon be closing for good.

Runt's Munchies was a completely unique dining experience. No one else has a menu like theirs. Where else can you order something called 'Egg Roll Roulette'? Ah, the egg rolls. So many amazing varieties to choose from. They even had breakfast rolls you could dip in syrup.

You could order sliders, wings, nachos, or even pickle wrap dip!

And then of course, there was the Case of Yum! Jess had new, fresh-baked items every single day in the case. Many times when we would visit, she would incorporate some of our favorite foods into those items. She knew we couldn't say no!

We took our Listener Lunch groups to Runt's Munchies ever since they opened over 8 years ago, first at 529 5th Ave SE, and then when they moved into the old Blue Strawberry location in 2022. They survived countless road construction projects and the pandemic.

We encourage you to stop by Runt's Munchies before they close on October 11th. Grab some egg rolls. Take home some goodies from the Case of Yum. And remember to support your favorite local restaurants that you have grown to love.
