In August, the city of Cedar Rapids became the first city in Iowa to introduce electric scooters as part of its bike-share program. I've seen people riding them throughout the downtown area and I have to say, they look like a blast to ride! If you've never tried out one of the scooters, or the city's electric-assist bicycles, you can for FREE this Thursday.

Thirty scooters are available to rent in various parts of the city including Newbo, Czech Village, Coe College, and Mt Mercy University. There was some apprehension about adding the scooters, but they have become very popular nationwide. By the end of 2018, there were over 85,000 e-scooters in over 100 U.S. cities.

To rent a bike or scooter you have to download the VeoRide app. After you create your account, you scan a QR code and away you go! Bike and scooters cost $1 to unlock and then another 15 cents per mile to use. When riding a scooter you are required to use the bike lanes and no sidewalks.

The free rides on Thursday are part of More Move Week in Cedar Rapids.
