‘Pro’ Wieskamp Shows Up For Iowa
I'll give Jess Settles the credit on this nickname. The former Iowa basketball star had a very appropriate nickname for current Iowa star Joe Wieskamp during halftime of the Iowa vs. Rutgers game Wednesday night. Settles said that if Joe keeps playing like this, they'll have to call him 'Pro' Wieskamp, alluding to Joe's wishes to play at the next level in the NBA. While that dream is still a ways off, I'll take an appearance by 'Pro' Wieskamp anytime!
On a night where Luka Garza had scoring troubles, Wieskamp came through for the Hawkeyes with 26 points as Iowa topped Rutgers 79-66. Iowa had dropped four out of their five previous games. Wieskamp hit five of seven from three point range and also pulled down 10 rebounds to secure the double double.
While the game was a typical Big Ten slugfest, Iowa never led by less than six points in the second half, according to the Gazette. Luka Garza also had a double double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Bohannon had 12 points and 7 assists and freshman Keegan Murray had 4 offensive rebounds to go with his 10 points. And yes, the Hawkeyes played defense. Sophomore C.J. Fredrick didn't score, but you could tell this Iowa team needs him out on the court for spacing, and his passing abilities.
Iowa tries to keep the good vibes going on the road as they play at Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
