Powerball Ticket Worth More Than $315 Million Sold in Wisconsin
There are at least two new mega-millionaires in the U.S. this morning, and one of them purchased their ticket in the Badger State.
Wednesday night's Powerball drawing was worth an estimated $632.6 million and only two winning tickets were sold. One of them was purchased in Wisconsin and the other was sold in California. At this point, we obviously have no idea if the winning ticket sold in Wisconsin was purchased on behalf of an individual or a group.
According to NBC Chicago, the California State Lottery says the winning ticket sold in their state was purchased at a 7-Eleven in Sacramento. The Wisconsin Lottery has confirmed the winning ticket in their state was sold in Green Bay.
The numbers drawn Wednesday night were 6, 14, 25, 33, and 46. The Powerball number drawn was 17. Whoever the winners are will share the first jackpot that was won since October 4, 2020. According to CNN, that was 40 drawings ago!
Last night's $632.6 million drawing put it just outside the top 10 of the largest lottery jackpots ever. On March 27, 2019, the Powerball jackpot was $768.4 million. Wisconsin had the only winner that night. The lucky guy was Manual Franco of West Allis, Wisconsin.
Iowa also had a winner among the 10 largest jackpots of all time. On October 27, 2018, two tickets were sold for the $687.8 million Powerball drawing. Lerynne West of Redfield, Iowa won $343.9 million. Below is a video of her claiming her prize early the next week at the Iowa Lottery headquarters.
The largest jackpot of all time happened on January 13, 2016. It was a whopping $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot. Winning tickets were sold for that drawing in three different states: California, Florida, and Tennessee.
