Just two years after celebrating an incredible 75 years in business, Boston Fish in Cedar Rapids has announced they'll close their doors for good on May 30, due to the sale of the property at the corner of 8th Avenue and 5th Street SE.

The news came earlier today at the restaurant, and via a post on their Facebook page. I spoke with manager Lenore Zoll who tells me that Boston Fish was her first job, at the age of 14. Her aunt and uncle, Joseph and Suzette Zoll, ran Boston Fish for more than 30 years with Lenore taking over in recent years. Suzette passed away about two years ago, but Joseph, though retired, still comes in and cooks every Friday during Lent.

Lenore says the Boston Fish property has been for sale for at least five years, but its sale all still seems sudden today. She told me she wants customers from over the years to know how much them sharing their stories with her and the staff has meant and that they'll never be forgotten.

Locally-owned, great food, and good people... they combined to make Boston Fish really special. It kind of feels like Cedar Rapids is losing a family member today because Boston Fish has been part of the fabric of this city for a very long time.
