Our Favorite Auditions on Week One of ‘American Idol’ [WATCH]
American Idol is BACK, baby! After watching the season premieres of both The Voice and Idol, both Brain and I have decided to fully dedicate ourselves to Idol this season. We were far more impressed with their first episode, so it was kind of a no-brainer. And honestly, who has time to watch both? Not us.
American Idol premiered on Sunday night and it was fantastic. I mean, REALLY good. The judges are fun and interesting, the contestants' stories are captivating, and don't even get me started on the talent! My absolute favorite of the week was 19-year-old Myra Tran. Myra is from Vietnam and has an accent when she speaks, but when she opens her mouth to sing she sounds like Jennifer-freaking-Hudson! I've watched this performance three times now and I'm speechless every time. This girl is INSANE:
One of my other favorites of the week was the final performer from Wednesday night's episode. His name is Alejandro Aranda, and he's this super mellow guy who didn't become a musician until his 20s. You'd absolutely never know that based on his audition because it sounds like he's been doing music his entire life. Some people just have that natural talent, and he is certainly one of those people:
And then there's 17-year-old Shayy Brings. Shayy found out about a year ago that she had a brain tumor, and because of it she is now legally blind. She has overcome so much in such a short period of time, but her voice is still as strong as ever:
My final favorite singer of the week is Laci Kaye Booth. She also has a very emotional back story, but hers involves her musician father being absent for most of her life. The two have reunited and bonded over their shared love of country music. Her cover of "Mama Tried" by Merle Haggard is just beautiful:
If this week is any indication, we are in for another exciting season of American Idol! Also, be sure to look out for Iowa City teen Abbie Callahan's audition. We can't wait to see her!
Who are your favorites so far? Let us know in the comments!
