A two vehicle accident on the east side of Cedar Rapids was reported to authorities just after 7:45 Wednesday morning.

The Linn County Sheriff's Department says they were called to the corner of Highway 13 and Mt. Vernon Road for a head-on accident with injury.

When authorities arrived on scene, they found a westbound utility truck had collided with a Subaru Forester which was going east, turning northbound.

The driver of the Subaru Forester was transported to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, where he passed away from his injuries. Late Wednesday afternoon, he was identified as 37-year-old Benjamin Sanders of Cedar Rapids. The utility truck driver was not injured.

Linn County Sheriff Rescue 57, the Iowa State Patrol, Area Ambulance Service, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, West Bertram Fire Department, and Mt. Vernon-Lisbon Police all also responded to the accident Wednesday morning.

Westbound traffic on Mt. Vernon Road at Highway 13 was closed due to the accident, which remains under investigation.
