President Obama Is Visibly As Frustrated As America Is On Gun Violence

Another gun violence tragedy on another school campus sent shockwaves again across America. Again. As the President addressed the nation on the incident yesterday, one comment rang clear, "Somehow this has become routine." And it's true, as the numbers are staggering.

Watching this speech, my heart is breaking as no matter how you feel about the President, (or gun issues), his own frustration is so clearly evident.  As he said, so much of the speech is routine. The first 2:30 of the speech are words we hear almost every incident. And the whole time, you see how he's somber, but almost impassive. Although, it's not in a bad way, but more as in 'why the heck am I saying the same words, but nothing changes' frustration.   Then he says this:

"Earlier this year, I answered a question in an interview by saying, 'The United States of America is the one advanced nation on Earth in which we do not have sufficient common-sense gun-safety laws -- even in the face of repeated mass killings.'  And later that day, there was a mass shooting at a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana.  That day!"

In our community, we have felt the effects of gun violence too often already this year.  But we're not alone. Look at these numbers.

• According to NBC News, since Columbine in 1999, this is the 31st Mass shooting, defined as having 3 or more victims.
• It's the 41st school shooting in 2015 alone, and the 142nd school shooting since Sandy Hook in 2012, per the Everytown For Gun Safety Group.
• According to the group Stop Handgun Violence, there's been over 87,450 American killed by guns since Sandy Hook.
• NBC News also reports, this has been the 4th campus shooting this school year alone.

In his speech, President Obama went on to say:

 "I would ask news organizations — because I won't put these facts forward — have news organizations tally up the number of Americans who have been killed in terrorist attacks in last decade and the number of Americans who've been killed by gun violence," Obama said Thursday night. "And post those side by side on your news reports. This won't be information coming from me. It will be coming from you." 

 "I hope and pray that I don't have to come out again during my tenure as President to offer my condolences to families in these circumstances.  But based on my experience as President, I can't guarantee that.  And that's terrible to say."  ~President Obama reflects on Oregon Tragedy, 10/1/2015

And those words simply sting.
