Nothing Bundt Cakes is Opening Its First Cedar Rapids Location
A popular bakery chain is set to open its second Corridor location! Nothing Bundt Cakes is "coming soon" to Cedar Rapids.

What's a Bundt Cake?
Bundt cakes are different from other cakes because of the distinctive pan that they're baked in. It's a ring-shaped pan with "fluted or grooved sides" and a tube in the middle, which Wikipedia says "allows faster and more even heat distribution when baking large volumes of batter."
The first Bundt cake pans to debut in the U.S. came from the Minnesota-based company Nordic Ware, who trademarked the term in 1951. According to Wikipedia, the pans did NOT sell well at first. In fact, they even considered discontinuing it. But, in the 60s, things changed drastically. The page reads:
"The product received a boost when it was mentioned in the New Good Housekeeping Cookbook in 1963, but did not gain real popularity until 1966, when a Bundt cake called the 'Tunnel of Fudge', baked by Ella Helfrich, took second place at the annual Pillsbury Bake-Off and won its baker $5,000 ($49,615 in 2025 dollars)."
Now, more than 70 year after being trademarked, Nordic Ware has sold more than 60 million Bundt pans here in the U.S.
