Beloved Cedar Rapids Restaurant to Open Second Location

Steve Baker Jr., the owner of Tommy's Restaurant in Cedar Rapids, didn't start out wanting to own a restaurant. Although he worked as a dishwasher at Tommy's in the early 1990s, Baker finished trade school in 1999 with every intention of moving away from the industry, according to the Tommy's website. But he was drawn back to the business and took over as the restaurant manager in 2015. In 2019, he became the new owner of Tommy's Restaurant. And now in 2026, he's preparing for the next big step!

Tommy's Restaurant to Open a Second Location

Tommy's Restaurant is located at 393 Edgewood Road NW in Cedar Rapids. The restaurant specializes in quality, homemade food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast menu is huge, featuring omelets, biscuits and gravy, shipwrecks, and more!

For lunch and dinner, they feature sandwiches, salads, burgers, wraps, and steak and salmon dinners. And fans of the food at Tommy's will be happy to know that a NEW, second Tommy's location is in the works! The restaurant announced on Facebook this week that a new location is coming soon, to a familiar location!

Where Will The Second Tommy's Restaurant Location Be?

While the post mentioned that the second Tommy's location will be on First Ave. in Cedar Rapids, the actual location was revealed in the comments! Tommy's second Cedar Rapids location will be at the site of the former Outback Steakhouse, at 3939 First Ave. SE. The building has been empty since Outback shut down in February of 2024.

When Will the New Tommy's Restaurant be Open?

No opening date has been set, but Tommy's commented on its post that they hope to have their second location open in August or September.
