Sports Restaurant to Replace Mamacita’s Taco Bar in Cedar Rapids

The circle of life for Cedar Rapids restaurants continues. When one closes, another is seemingly ready to take its place. A Mexican restaurant in Cedar Rapids that announced it was closing this spring officially has a new tenant.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that a new sports-themed restaurant will fill the void along Mt. Vernon Road in Cedar Rapids left by the closing of Mamacita's Taco Bar at 3025 Mt. Vernon Road SE. The Mexican restaurant announced it was closing in May.

The Gazette reports the new restaurant will offer a menu similar to another closed favorite restaurant from the city's past: Cork and Fork. The restaurant, named Pregame, will have a menu that features tenderloins, burgers, salads, croissants, a vegan menu, and a bar. The Gazette reports that Pregame will be the latest restaurant venture for Cedar Rapids and Marion restaurateur Jade Luter.

Mamacita's Taco Bar first opened in Cedar Rapids at 834 1st Ave. NE in March of 2022. It moved to the Mt. Vernon Road location at the end of 2022, according to the Gazette. It was run by the same owners as Mas Margarita's restaurant in Cedar Rapids. Prior to Mamacita's, Vernon Bar and Grill made the building home.

Luter hopes to have Pregame open sometime in August.
