NASCAR Driver Ryan Newman’s Amazing Recovery Continues
Ryan Newman's recovery from a crash on the final lap of Monday's Daytona 500 is almost unbelievable. So many of us feared the worst when this happened during the finish of NASCAR's biggest race.
Word came later Monday night that Newman was hospitalized in serious condition with non-life-threatening injuries. A relief, but still there was great concern. A release from Roush Fenway Tuesday afternoon informed us he was awake and talking with doctors. That was terrific news. What we found out today is nothing short of phenomenal.
Cedar Rapids native Joey Gase was only 20 cars behind Newman when the crash occurred. Fellow NASCAR driver, Landon Cassill, who didn't drive in this year's race, told KCRG, "It's a blunt reminder of how dangerous the sport is, even though it seems to have been pretty safe over the last few years. Nights like last night are just a reality check more than anything."
