A popular Mount Vernon restaurant is currently closed... but not for long! Big's BBQ and Brew Pub is preparing to open in a brand new location in the very near future!

The good news for residents of Mount Vernon is that Big's BBQ and Brew Pub is staying in the city. The restaurant's new address is 106 1st Street West, the former home of Alger's Pizza Palace. Alger's officially closed in June of 2023 after 36 years in business. According to East Iowa Central News, owners Rawley and Lisa Alger were looking to slow down and focus on their attention on other priorities.

Big's BBQ and Brew Pub officially closed their former location at 124 2nd Ave NW on January 27th, and they hope to reopen in the new space by Valentine's Day. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that owner Nanette Rambo said the restaurant grew out of its former building, and that the new spot is a "prime" location.

Big's BBQ and Brew Pub got its start in 2017 and was purchased by Nanette and her husband Jimmie Daughtery in 2021. The restaurant is known for its smoked meats, homemade sides, and craft beers. Menu items include Big's BBQ Pie, smoked mac & cheese, honey-glazed corn bread, baby back ribs, house-made bacon, a BBQ Burrito, sandwiches, and more! And, according to the Gazette, they plan to add a breakfast menu in the future.
