You know the jingle. "Save Big Money at Menards"! And one of the store's most popular ways for customers to save some money is its rebate program. However, a lawsuit claimed that Menards wasn't completely upfront on how the rebate program works.

Menards Reaches Settlement on Rebate Lawsuit

CBS2 reports that Menards has reached a settlement in a 2020 case that claimed the store incorrectly marked its 11% Rebate Program. Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird announced the settlement this week. Bird stated that "We are happy to work with Menards to make sure the details of their rebates are transparent to the many Iowans who shop there."

What Has Menards Agreed to Do Going Forward?

According to CBS2, Menards will now better communicate the limitations of the rebate program to customers and disclose all terms. They also agreed to disclose that Menards is doing business as Rebates International. CBS2 reports that Menards has also agreed to the following;

  • Allow consumers at least one year from the date of purchase to submit a rebate claim
  • Update their online rebate tracker with information about the rebate claim within 48 hours of the application being input into Menards’ system
  • Update their online rebate tracker with additional information about the rebate, including updates about returns affecting the rebate

How Much Did Menards Pay Due to the Lawsuit?

Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois co-led the lawsuit, according to CBS2. Other states that joined include Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, and South Dakota. As part of the settlement, Menards paid the state of Iowa $446,832.
