Marion Soldier Dies From Injuries Sustained at Fort Hood

A Marion native has died from injuries he suffered while working on a Bradley Fighting Vehicle, like the one shown above, at Fort Hood, Texas.

22-year-old Private First Class Mason Webber of Marion died Thursday, September 5. Webber joined the Army as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle (B.F.V) system maintainer in March of 2018. ABC reports B.F.V's, which can weigh 25 tons, are used to protect infantry troops during transport.

In August of 2018, Webber was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. During his time in the Army, he received the Army Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.

The commander of the 4th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, Lt. Col Adam Cannon, said in a release on Army Times,

The Darkhorse Squadron is deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of Private First Class Mason Webber. We send our most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Pfc. Webber. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them in this trying time. He was an indelible part of the squadron and his loss is deeply felt.

Webber's death is under investigation by the U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center.
