Man Murdered at Cedar Rapids Hotel Has Been Identified
[UPDATED APRIL 6 1 PM] The name of a Monday morning stabbing in Cedar Rapids has been released. He's been identified as 33-year-old Victor Huerta.
[ORIGINAL STORY] The Cedar Rapids Police Department continues to investigate an early-morning murder at a hotel on the city's northeast side.
According to a media release, a 911 call was received into the City of Cedar Rapids' Joint Communications Agency just after midnight Monday morning. The caller reported someone had been stabbed in a room at the Residence Inn. The hotel is located at 1900 Dodge Road Northeast.
When emergency personnel arrived at the hotel, they found a 33-year-old man who had suffered a stab wound "to the upper torso." Despite receiving emergency medical care at the scene, the man was pronounced dead.
Cedar Rapids police say that their investigation has determined there were multiple people in the room when the stabbing occurred. Police say a verbal argument between the man who was stabbed, and a suspect ended with the stabbing. The two men knew each other.
Cedar Rapids Police have announced they've made two separate arrests stemming from this morning's incident.
39-year-old Victoriano Dias-Barrera has been charged with 1st-Degree Murder, Going Armed with Intent, and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
29-year-old Anthony Diaz was arrested on a Texas murder warrant.
Both men are currently being held at the Linn County Jail in Cedar Rapids.
The victim's name hasn't been released, pending notification of family. The Cedar Rapids Police Department is continuing its investigation in this case.
