The weather was perfect. The setting, straight out of Utopia. Luke Bryan made it a trifecta of awesomeness in Cedar Rapids Friday night.

There was a lot to love about Luke Bryan's visit to a gigantic Cedar Rapids farm field. It was spacious. It was beautiful. It was what we love about Iowa. And it was a phenomenal concert.

Whitney Duncan was first to the stage with a high-energy, infectious performance on her second night on the six-stop tour.

Up next was a fierce threesome of songwriters. Rhett Akins, Dallas Davidson, & Ben Hayslip have written more than 80 number one songs. Known as The Peach Pickers, they launched into one chart-topper after another.

Dylan Scott was met with a roar when he took the stage and left the crowd, which continued to grow larger and larger while he played, wanting for more. They'd get their chance later in the night when he returned to the stage with Luke.

DJ Rock, who amped the crowd up between acts throughout the night, put the excitement of the masses into overdrive just before Luke hit the stage. When Luke first appeared under the bright lights in the middle of an Iowa field, the roar could likely be heard for several miles.

Luke, the owner of 27 #1 songs in his career, including country music's current #1 song, "Waves", played hit after hit after hit during his set, which went on for nearly two hours.

During his performance, Luke also brought Tommy & Robin Brown onto the stage. The Browns own the farm where the show was held. It also happened to be Tommy's dad (also Tommy) and his wife Phyllis' 58th wedding anniversary.

I also want to thank Guitar Center of Cedar Rapids for donating the electric guitar that Luke Bryan graciously agreed to autograph and personalize for our winner, Dennis W. He was one of many people who donated to Children's Miracle Network/University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital online and in-person over the last week. We raised over $1,600 for the kids and for me, that was the best part of a fantastic night.

I've been to a huge number of country concerts over the years but nothing quite like Friday night. The uniqueness of the Luke Bryan Farm Tour is something most of us in eastern Iowa hadn't been lucky enough to experience before Friday evening. Thank goodness I, along with thousands upon thousands of others can now say we have. It was truly a special night.
