Staying open for business for eight decades is a feat not many businesses reach anymore. A longtime downtown Cedar Rapids business has decided to exit the retail world after an amazing 84 years!

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Phelans Interiors at 728 Third Avenue Southeast has decided to close its retail business and instead focus on corporate design. The store opened 84 years ago and at that time was a paint supply store for lumber yards. In a statement, store officials said that with retail trends continuing to change, the decision was made to shift to corporate designs, which they call "our strongest and fastest-growing niche".

The Gazette reports that the areas the company will be focusing on will include health care, retirement communities, hospitality, and corporate environment projects. Even with the change, Phelan's corporate headquarters will remain at the Third Avenue location.

If you want to shop at Phelans one final time, you'll have to wait for a few days. The Gazette reports that the store is currently closed as they reprice their entire inventory. They are scheduled to re-open on April 1st with over $1 million in inventory for purchase. They are also taking orders.
