A Linn County man was tased by authorities Thursday afternoon after he had barricaded inside a home for approximately four hours.

According to a media release from the Linn County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to the Mercy Medical Center Emergency Room in Cedar Rapids just after 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning. They were contacted because a female victim had gone to the hospital after being injured in what she said was domestic abuse in a home in the 1000 block of East 1st Street in Center Point. The victim told them the incident had taken place Wednesday evening, March 2 into early in the morning on Thursday, March 3.

The Linn County Sheriff's Department (LCSD) identified 38-year-old Edger Gafford of Center Point, on parole for 2nd-degree burglary, as the defendant. Linn County Sheriff's Deputies gathered more information on Gafford and tried to contacted his Parole Officer before going to the residence in Center Point.

When deputies arrived at the home on East 1st Street in Center Point just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Gafford wouldn't come to the door. The 6th Judicial District High-Risk Unit assisted deputies at the scene where Gafford tried to leave the home through a basement window and then barricaded himself inside a room in the house.

At around 4:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon with Gafford not complying and unwilling to negotiate, a Linn County Sheriff's deputy and an officer from the High-Risk Unit tased Gafford and placed him into custody. The LCSD says Gafford was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids by Center Point Ambulance to be treated for minor injuries.

The investigation into the incident continues. No charges have been announced.
