It has officially arrived! The Linn County Freedom Rock was moved to its permanent location on the Linn County Fairgrounds this morning. The huge rock, weighing 61,000 pounds and approximately 14-foot by 7-foot in size, was donated by Watson Service-Tom Watson in Palo and moved by Coonrod Wrecker and Crane Service in Cedar Rapids who also put it in position at the fairgrounds. Thank you to Coonrod for donating their equipment and workers this morning! Yours truly, KHAK, the Linn County Freedom Rock Foundation, and the people of Linn County appreciate your help in what will be a long-standing salute to our veterans.

The rock, located just inside the entrance to the Linn County Fairgrounds in Central City, will act as the canvas for Linn County's Freedom Rock, which will be painted by Ray "Bubba" Sorensen. Sorensen is painting a Freedom Rock in all 99 Iowa counties, saluting local veterans. It is hoped the rock will be painted in advance of the 2020 fair. The rock will sit on a bed of gravel with a concrete walkway around it. It will also include benches to sit and will have pavers that can be purchased to salute individual veterans in your family. Those are not yet available, but stay tuned. If you'd like to donate to the Linn County Freedom Rock, you can do so at Dupaco Community Credit Union locations. Donations will also be gladly accepted right next to the Freedom Rock at the Linn County Fair, June 26 thru 30, in Central City. More fair information can be found HERE.

Sorensen repaints the original Freedom Rock just before Memorial Day each year, near Menlo, Iowa. Here is the work he completed on the rock, just a few weeks ago:
