Linn County Adopts New Fireworks Resolution
The Linn County Board of Supervisors approved a new resolution that would allow consumer fireworks during certain time frames.
The county and state both originally allowed the private use of fireworks between June 1 and July 8, as well as between December 10 and January 3 at designated hours. That has all changed.
The latest resolution is effective only in unincorporated Linn County, as each Linn County city has its own rules regarding consumer firework usage. The rule for those in unincorporated Linn County allows consumer fireworks during the following times:
- July 4 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.
- December 31 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. on the following day (January 1).
There are also some guidelines when it comes to where you can use the fireworks. The resolution states that fireworks may only be used on the property owned by the person or persons using the fireworks, or with the property owner's permission.
Linn County Supervisor Brent Oleson discussed the reasoning behind the change in a press release Friday. "We made this change in response to rural residents who contacted our office and asked us to limit the use of fireworks where they live.” Oleson goes on to say, “This change is also more closely aligned with what the metro area cities have in place regarding the use of fireworks.”
There you have it, the rules are set. We'll see ya this July 4th!
