La Cantina is Closing Their Downtown Location

Another popular restaurant in Downtown Cedar Rapids is closing its doors!

According to a post on their official Facebook page, the La Cantina Bar N Grill in downtown Cedar Rapids will be permanently closing. The Mexican restaurant, located at 102 2nd Street SE, has been a staple downtown for the last ten years, but the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic proved to be too much. The post reads:

"As with many local restaurants, 2020 was a challenging year full of many obstacles. With that being said, we have come to the very difficult decision to permanently close the doors to our downtown location. We will cherish the many wonderful memories that were made at this location and all of the wonderful customers we had the chance to serve."

The good news is that there are still two other La Cantina locations here in the Corridor that you can enjoy. There's one at 5400 Edgewood Rd NE in Cedar Rapids and one at 3217 7th Avenue in Marion. The Facebook post says that they will be focusing their energy on the growth of those two restaurants.

As someone who has worked downtown for the last 6+ years, I have been to that particular La Cantina so many times that it's impossible to count. We've had a ton of Friday lunches there, enjoyed margaritas and queso before countless concerts, and it's been our designated first stop for every St. Patrick's Day celebration. I even took a few salsa dancing lessons there! It will certainly be missed by many.
