Broadway is BACK!

After a very difficult year, Theatre Cedar Rapids is finally ready to take the stage again this fall! Late last week, the local organization announced their 2021-2022 "Homecoming Season," with six shows scheduled from October of 2021 to June of 2022.

The new season of shows will kick off on Friday, October 15th with Night of the Living Dead Live in the Grandon Studio. The Theatre Cedar Rapids website says, "this hilarious adaptation of George Romero’s 1968 cult classic delivers terror, laughs, and gushy zombie battles to our studio theater." It will run through October 30th.

The final show of 2021 will be the classic fairytale Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. That will run in the main auditorium from November 19th through December 19th. I saw a live performance of Cinderella at the Paramount Theatre a few years ago and it was FANTASTIC. It's definitely a favorite amongst little girls!

Kicking off 2022 is the Tony award-winning musical Kinky Boots. With music written by Cyndi Lauper, the Theatre Cedar Rapids website says, "this exhilarating true story about a struggling shoe factory will lift your spirits to high-heeled heights."  Performances will take place in the main auditorium from February 11th through March 6th.

Next on stage is a new play titled Dance Nation. It will take over the Grandon Studio from March 18th through April 3rd. Then, a few weeks later, the ever-popular The Sound of Music will debut in the main auditorium! You can hear classics like “My Favorite Things" from April 29th through May 29th, 2022.

And finally, "A mother. A daughter. Three possible fathers;" Mamma Mia! is happening in the main auditorium from June 24th through July 31st! Enjoy the music of ABBA with this beloved musical.

Tickets aren't on sale for any of the shows just yet, but you can become a subscriber to Theatre Cedar Rapids for more information HERE.

Just last week, the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids also announced their Broadway schedule for the upcoming season. You can read more about that HERE.
