Kevin Spacey Shares Bizarre Frank Underwood Video As Police Announce Criminal Charges
Kevin Spacey resurfaced on social media on Monday with a bizarre House of Cards-style address as police announced felony charges against him.
The disgraced actor dons a Christmas apron in the video, titled "Let Me Be Frank," in which he assumes the accent of his character. In the clip, he addressed his character being killed off on the Netflix show, as well as his belief his fans want him back.
"I know what you want," Spacey, 59, says as the video opens. "Oh sure, they may have tried to separate us, but what we have is too strong, too powerful. After all, we shared everything, you and I. I told you my deepest, darkest secrets. I showed you exactly what people are capable of. I shocked you with my honesty, but mostly I challenged you and made you think. And you trusted me, even though you knew you shouldn't. So we're not done, no matter what anyone says. And besides, I know what you want. You want me back."
The video came around the same time as a report from the Boston Globe, which revealed that Spacey had been charged with felony sexual assault. The district attorney told the paper a public show-cause hearing was held on Dec. 20 in which Clerk Magistrate Ryan Kearney issued a criminal complaint "against Kevin S. Fowler, also known as Kevin Spacey."
The video has been met with mixed reactions from Twitter users, though most were unimpressed with the stunt.
Spacey will be arraigned on one charge of indecent assault and battery at Nantucket District Court on Jan. 7, 2019.
The assault for which Spacey has been charged took place in July 2016 at a bar in Nantucket. In 2017, former Boston TV news anchor Heather Unruh first shared the allegation involving her son in a press conference. She claimed, at the time, that her then-18-year-old son was sexually assaulted by Spacey at the Club Car Restaurant.
She said her son, who wasn't able to legally drink, told Spacey he was of age. The actor then allegedly "bought him drink after drink after drink."
"My son was a starstruck, straight 18-year-old young man who had no idea that the famous actor was an alleged sexual predator or that he was about to become his next victim," Unruh said. "When my son was drunk, Spacey made his move and sexually assaulted him."
