Meet Iowa Hawkeye Star Kick Returner Kaden Wetjen in Coralville!
Iowa Hawkeye football has a long history of electric kick and punt return specialists. Names like Tim Dwight. Cooper DeJean. And you can add the name Kaden Wetjen to that list as well. Wetjen is pure electricity every time he touches the football, and this week, he'll be meeting Hawkeye fans in Coralville!
Kaden Wetjen, the Pride of Williamsburg, Iowa
After graduating from Williamsburg High School, Kaden Wetjen attended Iowa Western Community College to play football. After two seasons as a wide receiver, Wetjen entered the transfer portal. Despite offers from other schools, he decided to walk on at the University of Iowa and become a Hawkeye.
Becoming an All-American at Iowa
Wetjen's star began to shine during the 2024 season. Hawkeye Sports notes that Wetjen led the Big Ten and the nation in combined kick return yards. He was named a FWAA and Phil Steele First Team All-American, and won the Jett Award, given to the nation's top kick return specialist! He is the first Hawkeye to ever win the award!
Already in the Iowa Hawkeye Football Record Books
Wetjen continues to shine during his final season with the Hawkeyes. Hawkeye Sports reports that he currently has two punt returns for touchdowns, one kickoff return for a touchdown, one receiving touchdown, and two rushing touchdowns. He is the first Hawkeye in history to score a rushing, receiving, punt return, and kickoff return touchdown in the same season! He is also tied with Tim Dwight for the most punt return touchdowns in Iowa history with five.
