"A simple summer social on June 26". Sounds to me like the perfect nightcap to wrap up a day of summer fun this Saturday, how about you? Hours after the in-person Freedom Festival parade in downtown Cedar Rapids, hop on over to A Touch Of Class to support an event featuring live, local music, and food, with proceeds benefitting Tanager Place.

Because of lack of preparation time due to ongoing COVID-19 uncertainty, Tanager Place's Summer Fest wasn't quite the usual event this year, but they've worked something out that looks to be a lot of fun for their important cause. It's called "June Jam" and it is scheduled from 5-9 p.m.

The event description on their website says:

Be delighted with musical performances by Cole Thomas, Megan Harper, Justin Goodchild and Good Kidd. Music can inspire, empower and heal, and so can you when you support the 4,000 children and families that Tanager Place serves each year.

Did I mention the food?

The menu includes appetizers including fruit and Caprese skewers followed up by the main course of skewered meat, skewered potatoes, cucumber salad, grilled corn salad, and traditional cornbread and jalapeno honey butter. Don't forget dessert featuring campfire cupcakes. Wash it all down with a whiskey tasting, wine tasting, and perhaps best of all, complimentary bar.

How much does it cost?

Cost is $100 per person, with proceeds benefitting Tanager Place. You're supporting a local organization and local entertainment. They'd appreciate throwing in a little extra towards their scholarship fund as well, but no pressure. Register here and get more information.

Stop by Camp Tanager early for a tour of their expansion progress at 1614 W Mt Vernon Rd in. Mt Vernon followed by the quick drive to A Touch of Class for the main event of the night at 5977 Mt Vernon Rd SE.
