He holds 55 world records. He's the King of the 4th of July. He makes me want a hot dog real bad! Joey Chestnut is coming to Cedar Rapids!

Joey Chestnut to Appear in Cedar Rapids

CBS2 reports that Joey Chestnut, the greatest competitive eater of all time, will be making a stop in Cedar Rapids. Chestnut will visit the Cedar Rapids Kernels on August 16th.

You don't have to closely follow the world of competitive eating to know the name Joey Chestnut. He is best known for being an 18-time champion of the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. The event is held annually on the 4th of July in Coney Island, New York, according to CBS2. Yes, there have been other great competitive eaters, but Chestnut has blown records out of the water!

Chestnut holds the Nathan's record, eating 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes in 2021. This year, he won the contest again, downing 66 dogs. But Joey does a lot more than just hot dogs! Here are some of the other world records he holds, all sanctioned by Major League Eating.

  • Chicken Wings - 182 in 30 minutes
  • Twinkies - 121 in 6 minutes
  • Donuts - 257 donutettes in 6 minutes
  • Tacos - 126 traditional tortilla tacos in 8 minutes
  • Poutine - 28 pounds in 10 minutes
  • Hard-boiled Eggs - 141 in 8 minutes

What will Chestnut eat while in Cedar Rapids? The fact that he is appearing with the Cedar Rapids Kernels would suggest hot dogs. We'll just have to wait and see!

The Kernels host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on August 16th. First pitch is at 1.05 p.m.
