Jo Dee Messina Returns to Linn County Next Summer
Jo Dee Messina burst onto the country scene more than two decades ago and is returning to the area next summer for what undoubtedly will be another energetic and unforgettable performance.
Messina has returned to the limelight recently thanks to Cole Swindell's 4-week number one song, "She Had Me at Heads Carolina." She appears as a bartender in the video for the song and performed it with Swindell at last month's CMA Awards.
Obviously, Swindell's song pulls heavily from Messina's hit, "Heads Carolina, Tails California." Unlike Swindell's song, Messina's 1996 hit stalled at #2 on the national charts. It's incredible when you consider that most would consider it her signature song. That debut single launched an amazing career.
Messina has hit the top of the charts again and again with "Bye, Bye", "I'm Alright", "Stand Beside Me", "That's the Way", "Bring on the Rain" (a duet with Tim McGraw), and "My Give a Damn's Busted". Another song, "Lesson in Leavin'", spent an unheard-of seven weeks at #2 in the summer of 1999.
One thing that's always consistent when you think of Jo Dee Messina is the smile she seemingly always has on her face.
Yes, Jo Dee Messina has a great smile and always brings seemingly boundless energy to her performances. I remember welcoming her to the stage at a Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival concert on a hot June day in 2012. As she always does, Messina put on a wonderful performance and that smile was ever-present.
Jo Dee Messina is bringing Drew Parker along as a special guest for her show next summer. Already a successful songwriter, Parker is making a name for himself in Nashville with his first love, performing. That's something he started doing at the age of 3. Parker would pick up his first guitar as a young teen.
Jo Dee Messina and Drew Parker will perform at the Linn County Fair in Central City on Friday, June 30. Tickets go on sale Friday, December 9. Complete details on the show are available here.
