No one usually forgets their prom in a normal year, but when it takes place during a year marred by numerous ups and downs due to a pandemic, you can bet it would be even more memorable.

It's been a long year without a lot of fun things to do because of the pandemic, but a group of Cedar Rapids Jefferson high school students aimed to make memories and stand out in a big way this weekend.

Jayden Ellis, Gabby Myers, and Lexi Mikulas told KCRG they had their trap-shooting meet this weekend and while other shooters dressed in team uniforms, these girls dressed to the nines in prom attire.

Jefferson didn't actually have a real prom because of the pandemic but they did sanction a few unofficial events like a grand march, a dinner, a walk around the school, and other prom-ish events that were held. The girls wanted to make memories, so they say they did all the traditional pre-prom rituals before heading out for the night. Including putting on their dresses to go to their trap shoot.

Lexi Mikulas said dressing up for the trap-shoot meet had an added benefit for her: a boost in confidence to improve her results.

These girls definitely stood out from the other participants who wore traditional team uniforms. Gabby Myers said it was the most fun she's had all year. In a year like this one, that's all anyone deserves.
