USPS Announces Mailing Service Changes Impacting Iowa Residents

For the past 240 years, the United States Postal Service has played a key role in keeping the country connected.

USPS officials have been trying to come up with ways to improve their revenue.

According to the official USPS website, the department has recorded $87 billion in financial losses over the last 14 years. In response to this, they are once again hiking up the prices of some of their services, which will affect all Iowans.

Why Are the Prices Going Up?

The reason for this increase in cost is because of an initiative called the Delivering for America plan. Since 2021, the cost of stamps has increased twice yearly.

Ultimately, this ten-year plan is intended to generate more than $40 billion in new revenue for the USPS.

Specific Price Hikes

Starting on July 14th, 2024, the cost of a First-Class Forever stamps will go from 68 cents to 73 cents.

Last year at this time, it cost only 63 cents to send out a letter.

Overall, the cost of USPS services will go up approximately seven percent, according to reports.

Here are all of the specific price increases that you will see come July 14th:

• Letters (1 ounce): Up from 68 cents to 73 cents
• Letters (metered, 1 ounce): Up from 64 cents to 69 cents
• Domestic postcards: Up from 53 cents to 56 cents
• International postcards: Up from $1.55 to $1.65
• International letter: Up from $1.55 to $1.65
