If you had to pick a favorite burger right now, which burger are you choosing?

Are you going with a normal hamburger? Would you choose a specialty burger that has an egg on it? Are you getting a burger wrapped in lettuce instead of using a hamburger bun? If this is the toughest decision you have to many on any given day, I'd say you had a good day.

It appears that there is 1 style of burger that rules above the rest in Iowa. This style of burger is searched for more than any other burger in the state. What's interesting is this is not the most popular searched burger in the United States, so Iowa does differ from a majority of the rest of the country.

Hamburger vs Cheeseburger

According to SpinBet, around 50 billion burgers are consumed each year by Americans. This equates to around 3 burgers per week per person. National Cheeseburger Day is coming up on September 18th and it looks like Iowans will celebrate in full force.

Cheeseburger's are searched for around 2,100 times per month, in Iowa, on google. This is more than any other style of burger but it's close. A regular hamburger has the second most google searches with 1,900 per month.

After those two heavy hitters, there's a giant drop off at 3rd place. Double Cheeseburger has 800 google searches, Bacon Cheeseburger has 750, Veggie Burger has 450 to round out the top 5.

Iowa's most searched for burger is in the minority in the Midwest, but not by much. According to SpinBet,a normal hamburger is the most popular in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, and South Dakota. Cheeseburgers dominate in Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

In the Northeast, South, Mountain, and West coast, regular hamburgers are all more popular than the cheeseburger.

Sadly, I'm one of those weirdos who would rather have a burger without cheese if I have the choice. If there's cheese on it, I'm not sending it back to the kitchen but when I'm scoping out a menu, I tend to lead towards a cheese-less burger.
