On July 22nd, a journalist reported about an incident involving the Weather Channel's Des Moines broadcast. During the segment "Locals on the 8s" a strange sight flashed across the screen.

During the Thursday July 21st broadcast a disturbing forecast graphic appeared in the Des Moines market.

And no...it had nothing to do with the heatwave we're expected to get.

Journalist Matthew Keys reported that a graphic accidentally made it on the air that reads,

"Hello Des Moines, This is your weather my N-----s."

You can take a look at a blurred version of this graphic down below.

The Weather Channel issued an official statement following this journalist's tweet going viral.

"We removed this graphic as soon as we learned of it. This did not originate with us, and we are in the process of investigating it further. We apologize to our viewers."

There is still no word on what exactly happened behind the scenes during the time of the initial broadcast.

Could it have been a hacker who somehow got into The Weather Channel station's graphic system? Or was it an employee who was just messing around with the program behind the scenes?

Keys does report that a source claimed that it "likely originated at the cable head-end."

We will continue to keep you updated on the situation.
