While it may feel like spring one day in the Midwest, and winter the next day, it's still soup season, right?

If you're like me, you enjoy putting copious amounts of oyster crackers in your soup to give it more flavor and, frankly, volume.

Well, if you plan to toss in those crunch oyster crackers, you may want to double-check to make sure they haven't been recalled.

The crackers that are recalled are sold in several popular stores and have now become a Class II recall. A Class II recall is, as defined by the FDA:

A situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.

That makes this a pretty important recall to be aware of.

Cracker Recall Impacting the Midwest

The recall involves oyster crackers sold at popular retailers including Target, under the name Market Pantry, and Walmart, under the Great Value name.

The reason for the recall? "Potential foreign material" getting into the crackers. This was determined to be stainless steel wire, which is generally not something you want in your soup.

The recalled crackers can be found in 24 states, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Nebraska. There are 186,000 bags of crackers impacted by the recall.
