When you think of amazing seafood, you likely don't think, "Oh hey, Iowa is the hotspot for that!"

We are rather landlocked and, unlike both our neighbors to the north, we don't have a lot in the lake department. Certainly not a great lake.

However, the website Love Food has identified the best seafood establishment in each state, and yes, Iowa is included.

The Best Seafood Joint in Iowa

The top pick for Iowa is Waterfront Sea Market. Sporting two locations, one in Des Moines and one in Ankeny, they also have, as the name implies, a seafood market.

The market offers fresh seafood, and that's a big commitment for an Iowa establishment.

Why Waterfront Sea Market Was Chosen As Iowa's Top Seafood Spot

In their write-up, Love Food mentions that Waterfront Seafood Market has been serving up fresh seafood in Iowa since 1984, and proving that you don’t need a coastline for quality fish.

Each of the two locations features a restaurant, seafood market, and sushi bar.

Their menu lets you choose from just-caught options like catfish, salmon, mahi mahi, swordfish, and oysters, served with a side and fresh French or sourdough bread, letting the seafood shine as the star.

Worth a Visit

I love seafood. If you're a seafood fan yourself, it may be worth a visit to Waterfront Sea Market.

If you go, please report back and let me know what you thought of the experience!
